The last three days were spent with family because my aunt who resides in Davao City and presently  the last remaining among the ten siblings of my father, came for a visit with her children and another cousin.  Times like this are very precious for us.

As overflowing, delicious, favorite home-cooked food were readied for everyone’s appetite,  prayer before meals is the only whistle that can call for a pause to the non-stop chatter.   As we gathered around the dining table, repeated stories of our parents’ childhood and our very own growing up memories never fail to bring out  guffaws.

In the midst of this, my eyes were unexpectedly drawn to something beautiful.  DIAMONDS.

On hands, fingers, ears and necks.

They sparkled.  They glistened.  They invited.

At that moment, I caught my heart saying, “FATHER, why can’t I have them too?” The night ended with that “unexamined” expression of desire within me.  I slept on it.

I knew it was still with me when I woke up this morning.  Like a weight that is just there hanging and waiting to be unloaded.  No other way to unload but before the FATHER. Thus, the 4 party teleconference began.

“Good morning, FATHER.  May I tell you something?  You know last night, I loved what I saw.  Is it all right if I can have one like that too?”

“I will not withhold any good thing from you.”  Psalm 84:11

“All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.”  John 17:10

”  I am your portion and your inheritance…”  Numbers 18:20

“There is nothing wrong if you want it.  That’s every woman’s dream.  Go for it!”

“You should have it!”

“You can have it if you work for it!”

“Oh, it would be a pity they have and you don’t!”

HEART:  “Why do you want it?”

ME:  Because it is good.  It is beautiful.

HEART:  “Why do you want it?

ME:  Because it would be an investment.

HEART:  “Why do you want it?

ME:  Ummm….because others have it.

HEART: “Why do you want it?

ME:  Because….because…because…”

This 4-party conversation is an ongoing event in my life everyday.

The SPIRIT who is indwelt with by God’s Holy Spirit of regeneration and sanctification will always bring us to the LORD’s will and will strengthen us to choose the “DIAMONDS” that God knows is best for us.

The FLESH will never stop convincing and luring us to get the “DIAMONDS” this world offers to serve us.  This “person“, this “upgrade“, this “thing” will bring me the significance, security and satisfaction our heart longs for.

The HEART.  Our SOUL. Is where we choose.  Choose what CISTERN from which we will draw our lives from.  The SPIRIT or the FLESH.

“My people have committed two sins:  They have forsaken me,the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

Jeremiah 2:13

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other,  to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”

Galatians 5:16-17

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

2 Peter 1:3

And so I chose.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST is my MORE THAN “DIAMOND.”  He is my supreme delight and satisfaction.  Only HE is able to satisfy me.

Nothing more.  Nothing less.

I will still want to have an earthly DIAMOND in my lifetime if God has deemed it part of my CUP.  But for now, they will stand to remain outside of my heart.

DIAMONDS”  will still never fail to enthrall me.  But if I can’t have it here, I will SURELY be living and walking on it when I am HOME WITH FATHER.

“The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,  the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.”

Revelation 21:19-21

“Lord, you are more precious than silver,

Lord you are more costly than gold

Lord you are more beautiful than diamonds

And nothing I desire compares with you”

“I have a message from God in my heart

concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

In their own eyes they flatter themselves

too much to detect or hate their sin.”

Psalm 36:1-2

Man without God

…is lost.

…is without margins.

…is subject to excessiveness.

…is a slave to himself.

The normal course of the human heart is to wander.

“O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.”

Come, Thou Font of  Every Blessing

If our hearts are not yielded to the Lord Jesus Christ, we are powerless to the unsatiable dictates of our souls.

We will flatter ourselves.

Sooner or later, it will be too much, we cannot even hate it anymore.

A moment to moment dying to self is the only cure.

“Let us daily beg of God to preserve us from self-flattery. …to whom will they be true, who are false to their own souls?”

Matthew Henrys

“Thank you, Father for reaching down from on high and taking hold of me;

for drawing me out of deep waters.

for rescuing me from my powerful enemy,

from my foes, who were too strong for me.

They confronted me in the day of my disaster,

but YOU, Father, were my support.

      YOU brought me out into a spacious place;

YOU rescued me because you delighted in me.”

Psalm 18:16-19

Freed to Free

“Arbeit macht frei” is a German phrase meaning “work makes you free“.The slogan was placed over the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps during World War II, including Auschwitz I, where it was made by prisoners with metalwork skills and erected by order of the Nazis in June 1940.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY is the spiritual “concentration camp” that many of us are still in.  It is the condition of our hearts which believes that life is up to us.  We beat ourselves to do more and more, be more and more.

The enemy of our souls wants to keep us there so that we are worn out, defeated, and enslaved and not able to do what God has called us to do.

Weren’t we freed already?

Lest we forget that our freedom was wrought with the highest price.

We are not slaves anymore.

We are home with Father.

We are children of the King.  We are royalty.

We are free indeed.

Freed to free those that are STILL THERE.

“They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:23

“It cannot live on a past any more than the body can subsist on last year’s food.

The past is like the deep portions of coral reefs, a mere platform for the living present which shines on the surface of the sea, and grows.”

We must gather manna daily.

Our LIFE IN JESUS is continued by the same means as that by which it was begun.

By faith.  Through grace.

Forever dependent.

“Stay Beside Me”

father and daughter

“Who is among you that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of his servant,

that walks in darkness, and has no light?

let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay on his God.”

Isaiah 50:10

“It seems easy to trust when all is bright, but really it is just as hard, only we can more easily deceive ourselves, when physical well-being makes us comfortable. We are less conscious of our own emptiness, we mask our poverty from ourselves, we do not seem to need God so much.

But sorrow reveals our need to us. Other props are struck away, and it is either collapse or Him.

We learn the vanity, the transiency, of all besides.

Sorrow reveals God, as the pillar of cloud glowed brighter when the evening fell.

Sorrow is meant to awaken the powers that are apt to sleep in prosperity.

So the true voice of all our griefs is ‘Come up hither.’

They call us to trust, as nightfall calls us to light up our lamps.

The snow keeps the hidden seeds warm;

shepherds burn heather on the hillside that young grass may spring.”

“Stay beside me.  Don’t ever leave my side.”  are what I say to my children then when they were still little whenever we went to some crowded place like grocery stores or shopping malls.  I fully know that if they see anything that will catch their attention they will scamper off my hold.

I still hear the same words everyday but not from me but from Father.  He knows that I am just like my little children then.  If not for his firm grip on me, I would be some place else playing on any “toy” I will find along the way.

Father knows how to keep me by his side.

Father never lacks reasons for me to stay there.

I am thankful. Very, very thankful that YOU never allowed me to be off your

Just the LIFE I so want

job 11 17

“Still, if you set your heart on God and reach out to him,

If you scrub your hands of sin and refuse to entertain evil in your home,

You’ll be able to face the world unashamed
and keep a firm grip on life, guiltless and fearless.

You’ll forget your troubles;
they’ll be like old, faded photographs.

Your world will be washed in sunshine,
    every shadow dispersed by dayspring.

Full of hope, you’ll relax, confident again;
you’ll look around, sit back, and take it easy.

Expansive, without a care in the world,

you’ll be hunted out by many for your blessing.”

And They Lived Happily Ever After

 I followed after my FATHER.

Like Him, I love beautiful story endings.

I love to watch replays of movies I enjoyed because I already know its conclusion.

Before He wrote our story, He already perfectly knew how we will end.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”

Jeremiah 1:5

All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Psalm 139:16

Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.  I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

Joshua 1:2-6

My life.  Your life.

Is a replay of a story that was written before you and I came to be.

“Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.”

Ecclesiastes 3:15

And like the fairy tale stories I so enjoyed when I was a little girl

I am sure our GOD-STORIES will end with

“You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 16:11
